Corona Virus Prevention

The new coronavirus, officially known as SARS – COV-2, is a virus that causes COVID-19 or Coronavirus disease 19. The term SARS-COV-2 stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 and is related to the SARS-COV that caused another type of coronavirus disease around the years 2002 and 2003.

The recent SARS-COV-2 is more deadly than the previous ones and can be transmitted more easily from one person to another. It is more severe because people can be infected without showing outward symptoms. However, you can always find out if you have been infected or not by taking a coronavirus swab test at specialised clinics or health centres like PCR test London.

To be safe from this disease, you must follow the guidelines and tips below.

Tips For Preventing Corona Virus

  • Avoid sharing personal items

The thing about SARS-COV-2 is that it can survive on surfaces for up to 72 hours. This means they can be present anywhere, from your phones to clothes and even plates and spoons. Sharing your items with other people places you and those people at risk of getting infected.

  • Stop touching your face

Like earlier mentioned, SARS-COV-2 can live on surfaces long enough for them to be passed on. It would be best if you were extra careful with the way you touch surfaces like doorknobs, tabletops etc. The virus can easily be transmitted to your body when you touch your face with hands that have been in places. SARS-COV-2 easily gets into the body through the nose and mouth.

  • Clean and disinfect surfaces

Carrying around a hand sanitiser is never a bad idea. Clean all surfaces and objects you regularly use with alcohol-based disinfectant or sanitiser. Do not restrict yourself to cleaning once or twice a day. Clean as many times as possible daily.

  • Avoid shaking or hugging people

Besides transmission from surfaces, SARS-COV-2 can also be transmitted through skin to skin contact. At least for now, avoid hugging people or shaking their hands.

  • Wash Your Hands As Many Times As Possible

Always wash your hands as much as possible daily, especially when you come inside or after touching your phone and laptops. Use an antibacterial or antiviral soap when washing, and always make sure to wash between your fingers, wrists and fingernails too. If you can’t wash as often as you should, always have your hand sanitiser with you.

  • Cover Your Mouth And Nose

The mouth and the nose are significant areas where the virus is found in large quantities. This means they are easily carried by air and water droplets from your mouth and nose when you talk, sneeze or cough. Even if you are not infected, protect others by covering your mouth and nose when speaking or sneezing. When you need to sneeze or cough, do it in the crook of your elbow or use a tissue and always wash your hands afterwards.

  • Avoid group gathering

Being near several people at once can increase your chances of getting infected. An infected person may not show symptoms, and you can get infected by droplets from the nose or mouth of people. Avoid areas that call for proximity or group gathering.

  • Wash Your Groceries Before Eating Them

You do not have to use soap to do so, but running them under water before eating them or preparing them will significantly reduce your chances of getting infected. Also, wash your hands before and after preparing food.

  • Practice Social Distancing

It has been established earlier that proximity increases one’s chance of getting infected. Maintain a distance of at least 2 meters from everyone when you go out. If you can, stay indoors and work remotely. This will protect you and others from getting infected.

  • Stay away from public places

Avoid public places for now and stay away from areas that involve eating publicly. SARS-COV-2 can be temporarily airborne, and they can be present on public food due to the presence of a crowd. If you must eat out, have it delivered or get a takeaway instead. Also, ensure the food is not cold and is properly cooked.

  • Always Wear A Face Mask

Face masks are not guaranteed to protect you entirely from SARS-COV-2; however, with regular washing of hands and social distancing, you have a greater chance of not being infected. Your choice of mask, however, should be important too. Surgical masks are more effective than cloth masks, and must not be used by children under the age of 2 or people who have trouble breathing. Such people would be safer indoors and practising social distancing.

  • Quarantine When Sick

The moment you feel any unnatural sign or symptoms, do not go out. You could be putting others at risk of being infected. Even if you haven’t been diagnosed with SARS-COV-2, quarantine yourself from friends and family until the doctor arrives or you have been tested. Wear a mask always and stay away from others if you show any signs of being sick.

Why Is It Important To Protect Yourself

SARS-COV-2 is a serious viral disease. If you do not know why you should take measures to protect yourself, take a look at the reasons below

  • Once infected, you become contagious
  • You may be infected without showing outward symptoms
  • It has a longer incubation time, meaning you may not know you are infected until its too late.

When To Call A Doctor
